Welcome
Hi I’m Karl.
I am a music and technology teacher. For the past decade I have practiced my craft as an international teacher but now I am coming back the the United States to continue my career. To find our more about me professionally please visit my portfolio site.
Ed Tech Tales will serve as a repository for my current and future projects while in pursuit of my Masters in Educational Technology from Boise State University. Before I go on, please know that the MET program at Boise State is outstanding and anyone interested in becoming a certified professional in educational technology should strongly consider their program.
Technology in education is about wondering what is possible while acknowledging what is real.
This site is a work in progress since (as of this writing) it is less than a week old. The design and functionality of this site will change and hopefully improve. I love designing websites through WordPress and I highly recommend it. With a moderate understanding of html and css you can achieve everything you see here.
My views on educational technology are seen through the lens of my experiences and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. After a decade in the profession, I still possess the enthusiasm for the craft common to new teachers but my optimism is tempered by experiences both positive and negative. Reality is a great teacher but know that not even a few bumps along the way have diminished my love for a good joke.
However you interpret what I write here, know that I will always honestly present my views about teaching and technology as I see them at this stage in my journey. Technology in education is about wondering what is possible while acknowledging what is real. Of particular interest is the dissonance that exists between the way academics and researchers see education and the way teachers down in the trenches experience and practice it on a daily basis. I see myself as a messenger between these two camps despite the fact that they both exist internally within me. My goal is reconciliation for the betterment of everyone involved and my own piece of mind.
Lets go exploring together. Hopefully you can add your thoughts and views here. If you find something you like please take and run with it. If you find something you don’t like let me know. Either way, I would be happy to know you and share a slice of life together.
